Driving with no particular place to go is quickly becoming common place for us. We originally aimed for Lacanau and stopped there for lunch. The promenade and its collection of cafes and restaurants reminded us of a previous visit to Hossegor. The sea was flat and parking a little tricky, due to height restrictions, so we didn't stay long. We needed a place to stop a while and fix the vans problematic barn doors. So we headed for the nearby lake but typically ended up at the beach on Le Porge. The roads here were very straight and full of pines and picnic spots.
This seemed to be a popular place for overnight camper vans, parked up next to the handful of restaurants expectantly awaiting the odd customer.
We sunbathed on the beach sheltering from the strong winds, sadly concluding the surf would be non existent for the best part of a week. What we would do in such a scenario had not previously been considered... We awoke at sunrise and left for Arcachon Bay a place we'd been tipped as worth a visit.
